Challenge And Defeat Hepatitis B

hepatitis October 31st, 2009

hepatitis
Peter Finch asked:

Hepatitis B is a viral disease, which is caused by the transmission and infection with the hepatitis virus B. This particular infection can determine the formation of scared tissue inside the liver of an individual, hepatic dysfunction as well as hepatic cirrhosis, hepatic cancer or even decease of the infected person.

Hepatitis B virus can be found in affected blood or in other infected liquids of the human body, for example seminal liquid, vaginal secretions. This is why the transmission of this virus can be done through blood transfusions with infected blood, by using infected syringes and needles, either in hospitals or in dentist’s offices, manicure proceedings, piercing, etc.

It also very easily trabsmitable through sexual unprotected contact and it can be transmitted from the mother to the newborn, too.

The symptoms of the acute hepatitis B infection are diverse. One of them is the color change of the white part of the eye; it becomes yellowish. The skin can go through the same changes, which could also indicate an infection with that virus. The urine of an infected individual could turn orange or even brown when such an infection happens, and feces are discolored.

There are also other symptoms of the hepatitis B infection. Exaggerated and persistent exhaustion could be one of them. If that exhaustion is present for days or even for weeks, it could be a sign that the individual is infected with hepatitis B virus.

There are also a number of symptoms, which can be the manifestation of other affections, like flu, which can also mean a viral infection with B hepatitis. The patient may present fever, lack of appetite, nausea, and even vomit.

These symptoms appear after a one to six month period of incubation of the virus, after the initial contact with the infected person or object. What you must be attentive about and know is that approximately thirty percent of the infected individuals present no symptoms what so ever. The symptoms of chronic hepatitis B are similar to the acute hepatitis B, with the particularity that the exhaustion is more severe, and the patient may get confused or disoriented.

When a doctor suspects a viral B hepatitis, he or she will proceed to a full examination and a series of blood tests to establish if the hepatic functions are working right. If this virus is traced, and when the hepatitis is chronic, hepatic biopsy is recommended. This will reveal the severity of the illness. The doctor will recommend special treatment in the matter, depending on the patient’s state and the severity of the affection.

Acute B hepatitis can be treated and cured in about six months, and the cases are usually limited. Few of the acute hepatitiscases turn into chronic hepatitis. If the individual sees a doctor as soon as he or she was exposed to the virus, a special vaccine will be administered. The dosage of the vaccine will stimulate the immune system to fight against the infection.

Patients with acute B hepatitis are recommended a lot of rest, to hurry up the recovery.

Searching for Alternative Hepatitis C Supplements

hepatitis October 31st, 2009

hepatitis
Collin Eidsness asked:

Millions of people suffer from the most common form of hepatitis – Hepatitis C. This infection is blood borne. Hepatitis C often starts with general flu-like symptoms (loss of appetite, fatigue, headaches, sore throat) and can progress to and often leads to severe liver problems, even causing cirrhosis. Many people struggle with the long term effects of Hepatitis C, with little relief. Fortunately, Hepatitis C supplements can improve the long-term outcome of this illness.

There are a variety of supplements that relieve some of the symptoms related to Hepatitis C. There is one supplement that uses ancient health secrets to provide modern-day treatments – Mesosilver Colloidal Silver.

Mesosilver colloidal silver is a pure mineral supplement. Colloid is a scientific term for minuscule or microscopic particles that are suspended in a liquid. Colloidal minerals are minute particles of silver broken down and suspended in water so it can be ingested. Mesosilver particles are the smallest, most effective particles of silver available – 0.65 nanometers in diameter. Mesosilver colloidal silver particles are made of pure, sterilized water and pure silver particles.

The Mesosilver colloidal silver is an effective complementary therapy to Hepatitis C. Silver was used in ancient times to treat infectious diseases. Nowadays, we know that colloidal silver is an effective Hepatitis C supplement because the silver particles prohibit cell metabolism of microorganisms, like bacteria and viruses.

Hepatitis C supplements provide the body with minerals needed to achieve optimal health. These minerals not only support the immune system, but are also important building blocks in supporting soft tissue development (ligaments, muscles and tendons) as well as bone strength. Minerals are also essential for the regulation bodily functions such as heartbeat, transportation of oxygen to body tissue, and blood clotting.

Hepatitis C supplements such as colloidal silver help support the immune system as it tries to destroy the Hepatitis C virus. Mesosilver colloidal silver may help inhibit the progression of the illness and assist with some of the symptoms associated with the illness. Many individuals that suffer from Hepatitis C report a significant change in their viral load count after taking colloidal silver.

Mesosilver colloidal silver can provide a real improvement in your health, whether you suffer from Hepatitis C or any other ailment. In fact, colloidal silver treatments are reported to help the body defend against 650 known bacteria, viruses and fungus. Colloidal silver treatments strengthen and boost the immune system and establish a strong defense against illness.

Hepatitis

hepatitis October 26th, 2009

hepatitis
Sajid Latif asked:

What is hepatitis?

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver, usually due to viral infection or alcohol abuse. The condition can be a short episode (acute) or a prolonged illness (chronic). There are many hepatitis viruses; the three most common are called hepatitis A, B and C.

What causes hepatitis and who is at risk?

Hepatitis is most commonly caused by hepatitis viruses or excessive alcohol intake. Hepatitis may occasionally be caused by exposure to certain chemicals or drugs.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is spread by ingesting substances contaminated with the hepatitis A virus, including food and water, or using contaminated cutlery or crockery. Contamination is usually due to poor hygiene, especially unwashed hands after using the toilet.

Symptoms usually appear about two weeks after contact with the virus. After the initial phase, which may last from a few days to several weeks, the symptoms subside.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a more serious condition. It often leads to chronic hepatitis and extensive liver damage. It may lead to cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver and is a major cause of liver cancer.

Hepatitis B virus is spread through body fluids, such as blood, semen, saliva and vaginal secretions. The most common routes of infection are sexual contact with an infected person and contaminated needles used for intravenous drug abuse.

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C also spreads via body fluids. The most common routes of infection are sexual contact and using contaminated needles for intravenous drug abuse.

Effective blood- screening procedures have greatly reduced the chances of hepatitis C infection from blood transfusions.

The effects of hepatitis C are initially less severe than those of the A and B forms. The symptoms usually appear between one and 10 weeks after exposure and often jaundice does not develop.

Other types of infections

Alcoholic hepatitis

Alcoholic liver disease is one of the major causes of death in the Western world, and the harmful effects of excessive alcohol intake should never be underestimated. Hepatitis caused by alcohol may be acute or chronic, and contributes to cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver.

Drug-induced hepatitis

Various drugs, if taken in deliberate overdose, may cause hepatitis; the most common in the UK is paracetamol. The outcome depends on the quantity taken and the time until treatment is administered in hospital; death can occur months later from liver failure.

What are the common symptoms and complications of hepatitis?

In some cases, people with hepatitis have no symptoms at all. However, many attacks of acute hepatitis produce a range of flu- like symptoms at first, including:

Fatigue

Headache

Loss of appetite

Nausea or vomiting

Fever

What is the treatment for hepatitis?

You may need to have blood tests for several months to monitor the progress of the disease. Treatment of alcoholic hepatitis involves withdrawal of alcohol and subsequent management of alcohol addiction.

Self-care action plan

To prevent the spread of viral hepatitis and protect you against infection:

Always wash your hands thoroughly after going to the toilet and before preparing food

When sanitation is questionable, boil water before drinking it and avoid uncooked food or food washed in water that has not been boiled

Do not expose yourself to the bodily fluids (blood, semen, vaginal secretions, saliva) of individuals infected with hepatitis B or C

Avoid excessive alcohol intake

Heterosexually promiscuous or having sex with a promiscuous partner

A sexually active gay male

HIV positive

An intravenous drug user

A health care or dental worker

How do i get a hepatitis b titer?

hepatitis October 24th, 2009

hepatitis
Nathan asked:

I’m trying to have a titer test done to see if my hepatitis b vaccine is still effective. I want to know because I will be traveling through SE Asia in a few months and I want to know if I should get a booster. My physician is essentially refusing to order the test, saying that I can’t afford it (even though he won’t tell me the cost). When i tried getting in touch with another physician, i just get passed from one department at their office to another. Does anyone have any suggestions?

An Updated Report on Hepatitis C Genotypes

hepatitis October 23rd, 2009

hepatitis
Nicole Cutler, L.Ac. asked:

Medical professionals realize that developing a customized treatment plan for each patient is the key in defeating any condition or disease. This is especially important when dealing with the Hepatitis C virus because there are so many strains of the virus, and a number of different genotypes. A treatment plan that works for one patient may not be effective for another, even though both patients are infected with the same disease. How the different Hepatitis C genotypes affect the body differs with each person, therefore treatment plans must be custom-made for each individual patient.

Consider the following situation: two people of the same age are diagnosed with Hepatitis C. They both start and finish the standard course of interferon treatment at the same time, however patient A has responded more positively to treatment than patient B. How can this be possible if they were both on the same treatment? The answer lies in their differing genotypes.

Testing for specific genotypes should be done immediately following the HCV diagnosis, so that an appropriate treatment plan can be developed. The earlier this crucial information is determined, the better chance the treatment will have a beneficial effect on the virus. Interferon therapy alone may be beneficial for a certain genotype, however other genotypes may require combination therapy. For example, genotypes 2 and 3 respond more favorably to standard interferon therapy than other genotypes. Also, once a treatment plan has been developed, depending on the given genotype, the length of treatment may vary between patients.

Unfortunately, many patients find that their initial course of therapy has had little effect on the virus, and they must be re-treated. Developing a more customized treatment plan based on specific genotype may reduce this need for re-treatment altogether. If you are infected with HCV but don’t know your genotype, speak directly with your physician immediately.

More Expert Food Tips for Chronic Hepatitis C

hepatitis October 16th, 2009

hepatitis
Nicole Cutler, L.Ac. asked:

Most people have no trouble choosing what food to eat on a daily basis, taking them very little effort to plan a meal. However, for those who suffer from Hepatitis C, it can be a completely different story; a simple task like eating, can cause great challenges. Just having Hepatitis C has the ability to cause a wide range of uncomfortable symptoms from fatigue to nausea. For others, these symptoms are caused by the treatments or medications they are using.

Trying to figure out what foods are healthy and will not aggravate already troublesome symptoms can be frustrating, and can take a toll on the body. Many Hepatitis C patients experience a lack of appetite and, unfortunately, the medications they are on can end up making the foods they once loved, taste different. Additionally, many of those suffering from chronic liver disease experience such severe fatigue that going to the grocery store or cooking a meal is just not an option.

Those with chronic health conditions can benefit a great deal from consuming a balanced diet consisting of healthy food. If you have lost your appetite, one alternative to eating a full meal three times per day would be to try eating several small portions throughout the day. Also, you might want to try doing some mild exercise to stimulate your appetite. However, if fatigue is a big problem for you, you could prepare extra food and freeze it on the days you have energy to cook. If you are plagued by nausea, try drinking ginger ale or ginger tea to help settle your stomach.

Although it may be difficult at times, making an effort to support a healthy lifestyle is beneficial to helping get back on your way to recovery. It is important to not lose hope and realize that there are other options available to help you get through these difficult times.
